Winter Wedding Inspiration at Brussels Four Winds Barn in Ontario

A bride and groom sitting in a horse and carriage in the winter
When many couples picture their wedding day, they often imagine warm summer evenings, outdoor ceremonies, and gardens in full bloom. But there is something truly special about celebrating love during the quieter beauty of winter in Ontario.
This winter styled shoot at Four Winds in Brussels, Ontario, was a perfect reminder of why winter weddings deserve more attention. With a rich colour palette of deep reds, auburn tones, warm textures, and cozy details, this celebration showed how romantic and memorable a winter wedding can be.

Why Choose a Winter Wedding?

A cozy and romantic atmosphereWinter naturally creates an intimate feeling. Shorter days, soft light, warm textures, and the opportunity to gather together indoors can make a wedding feel incredibly intentional and connected.
There is something magical about stepping away from the busy pace of summer and creating a celebration that feels cozy, relaxed, and full of meaningful moments.
Winter weddings are perfect for couples who love:
  • candlelight and warm ambience
  • rich colours and seasonal details
  • cozy indoor spaces
  • intimate celebrations with their closest family and friends

Beautiful Winter Wedding Colours

One of the things we loved most about this Four Winds winter styled shoot was the colour palette.
The deep red and auburn tones created a warm, romantic feeling that worked beautifully against the winter landscape. Shades like burgundy, copper, rust, and deep berry tones are perfect for couples looking for something elegant and timeless.
Winter weddings also offer so many opportunities to incorporate beautiful textures and details:
  • velvet fabrics
  • warm florals
  • seasonal greenery
  • cozy blankets
  • candlelight
  • natural wood elements
These details help create a wedding day that feels unique and personal.

A More Comfortable Alternative to Summer Heat

While summer weddings will always be popular, Ontario summers can bring some very warm days. For couples who prefer cooler temperatures, a winter wedding can be a wonderful alternative.
There is something refreshing about not having to worry about a 30-degree day while wearing formal attire, getting ready in a warm room, or taking portraits in the middle of the summer heat.
Winter offers a different kind of beauty, crisp air, soft light, and a chance to embrace the season instead of working around it.

Winter Weddings May Offer More Flexibility

Since winter is generally considered the off-season for weddings in Ontario, couples may find more availability with some venues and vendors compared to the busy summer months.
While every venue and vendor is different, choosing a winter date can sometimes provide more flexibility when planning your celebration.
It can also be a great option for couples who want a beautiful wedding experience while being thoughtful about their budget.

Planning for Winter Weather

Of course, planning a winter wedding in Ontario means accepting that the weather may be unpredictable.
The day of our Four Winds styled shoot brought a significant winter storm, but with some preparation and flexibility, everyone arrived safely and the day went ahead beautifully. In many ways, it became part of the story , a reminder that winter has a way of creating unexpected moments and beautiful memories.
If you are planning a winter wedding and have guests travelling from farther away, we recommend considering a few extra steps:
  • Encourage out of town guests to arrive the night before if possible.
  • Build extra travel time into your schedule.
  • Have a plan for portraits if weather conditions change.
  • Work with vendors who understand winter conditions and can help you adapt.
The goal is not to fight the weather , it is to embrace the season and create a day that feels authentic to you.
