Amy & Tim's Rainy DKT Chapel Wedding Kitchener ~ Emptage Photography
A Rainy Wedding Day at DKT Chapel in Kitchener ~ Amy & Tim
Amy and Tim were married at DKT Chapel in Kitchener on a rainy day. They brought their dog along for some of their photos, and when the rain kept coming, they didn't let it change the plan too much. We grabbed the umbrellas and headed outside anyway.
Their day took us from DKT Chapel to the Rotunda at Kitchener City Hall, then over to Victoria Park for family photos, and finally out to Monarch Woods with just the two of them and their dog.
It turned out to be a pretty great way to spend a rainy wedding day.

A Wedding at DKT Chapel in Kitchener
DKT Chapel is one of those Kitchener wedding locations I've had the chance to photograph many times over the years, but somehow I've never blogged one of the weddings I've photographed there.
It's a lovely option for couples who want a smaller, more intimate wedding. DKT Chapel is set up specifically for small ceremonies, making it a natural fit for elopements and micro-weddings as well as couples who simply don't want a large traditional wedding.
I like that a smaller wedding doesn't have to mean giving up beautiful photographs or interesting places to explore. There are quite a few great options nearby, which gives you the chance to make a whole afternoon out of your portraits without spending the day driving from one location to another.
For Amy and Tim, the weather gave us a little extra challenge, but also some pretty great opportunities.

Rainy-Day Photos at Kitchener City Hall
After the ceremony, we headed over to the Rotunda at Kitchener City Hall.
Having an indoor option so close to DKT Chapel can be really handy when the weather isn't cooperating. You don't have to put everyone in cars and drive across the city just to find somewhere dry, and the Rotunda gives you a completely different look from the chapel.
It's also something I particularly like for family photos when there are grandparents or other family members who may not want to walk very far.
One thing to keep in mind if you're considering the Rotunda for your wedding photos is that the space is also used for events and exhibitions. It's a good idea to check with the City of Kitchener and make sure the space will be available on your wedding day rather than counting on it as an automatic rain backup.
For us, it was a great place to spend some time while the rain continued outside.

Wedding Photos at Victoria Park
From City Hall, we headed over to nearby Victoria Park for family photos.
Victoria Park is one of my favourite places in Kitchener for photos because there is so much variety in one easily walkable area. There are beautiful mature trees, the water, bridges, old-fashioned lamp posts and lots of greenery.
It's especially useful for family photos because you can get a number of different backgrounds without asking everyone to walk all over the city.
And even with the rain, there was plenty to work with.

A Rainy Walk Through Monarch Woods
After the family photos, we headed to one of my favourite little spots in Kitchener: Monarch Woods. It's a bit of a hidden gem. Once you're on the trails, it doesn't really feel like you're in the city anymore. There are groomed trails, a stream, forest, bridges and lots of little places to stop along the way.
This part of the day was just for Amy and Tim, along with their dog. And they were total troopers about the rain. We grabbed the umbrellas and headed out into the woods.
This is one of my favourite kinds of wedding photography, getting away from the formal parts of the day and giving a couple some time to simply walk around together. There's something about being outside, surrounded by trees and water, that makes it much easier to forget you're having your photos taken. And having their dog along made it even better.
The rain became part of the photographs rather than something we needed to hide. The umbrellas, wet trails and forest all added to the feeling of the day, and Monarch Woods gave us something completely different from the chapel and downtown photos earlier on.

For the Couples Who Don't Mind a Little Rain
Honestly, weddings like Amy and Tim's are our kind of wedding days.
The couples who bring the dog. Who don't panic when it starts raining. Who are willing to grab an umbrella, head outside and see what happens. The ones who are happy to wander a little, get their shoes a bit damp, and find a beautiful trail, a quiet patch of forest or a great spot beside the water.
There's something pretty special about photographs made that way. When you're willing to embrace the outdoors and let the day unfold a little naturally, you can find some of the most beautiful moments, and sometimes a little rain makes it even more magical.
If that sounds like you, we're probably going to get along just fine.

Planning a Smaller Wedding at DKT Chapel
If you're planning an elopement or micro-wedding at DKT Chapel, you don't have to stop at the ceremony.
The chapel's location gives you quite a few options for photographs afterward. You can keep things simple with a few portraits around City Hall, head over to Victoria Park for family photos, or spend some more time exploring somewhere like Monarch Woods.
That's one of the things I love about smaller weddings. You don't need a packed schedule to have a day that feels like a real celebration.
You can get married, spend time with the people closest to you, take some beautiful photos, bring the dog along, and then head out for dinner or whatever comes next.
And if it happens to rain? Well, you can always grab an umbrella and go for a walk.
